Summer TBR

Hey everyone over the next two weeks I will be posting my Top 14 of 2014 for both YA and NA/Adult as well as a two part posts of my most anticipated for 2015! Today to kick all this off is my Summer TBR!

A few of these books came out earlier this year in Australia's winter and I just couldn't read them because it wasn't summer and these to me are summer books.

1. Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson
Every single time I see this title I start singing:
Since you been gone,
I can breathe for first time,
So moving on yeah yeah
It also makes me want to watch Pitch Perfect. But anyways this book like all of Matson's books just have summer written all over them!

2. Paper Towns by John Green
I bought this earlier in the year, before they announced that it was being made into a movie but I just never got around to reading it. Since it is a road trip book I felt like it had to be read in summer.

3. The Year It All Ended by Kirsty Murray
This is an Aussie YA which I received for review a month or two ago, I didn't get a chance to read then because of uni games and exams, but now I look forward to reading it this summer!

4. All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven
I received this book about a month and a half ago to review and have put it off because it releases in January. This book likes quite interesting and I cannot wait to get into it the next few weeks!

5. The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks by E. Lockhart
I read We Were Liars earlier this year and loved it, so I am looking forward to reading this one which also comes out in January and I have a review copy of as well.

6. All Fall Down by Ally Carter
This book is released mid/late January and I cannot bloody wait for this book to be released, I need my Ally Carter fix okay? I don't know what it is about Ally Carter's books but I just love reading them in summer!

So what is on your Summer TBR let me know down below in the comments!

Book Tag: Top 10 books that have stayed with me

Eugenia from Genie in a book has tagged me for this book tag! Now I'm cheating slightly because I have increased my list to 13 and which contains 9 Aussie authors!

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

I have loved this book ever since I read it year 9 and again for my HSC in year 12. The way it is written just sticks with you for a long time after finishing the story.

Wildfire by Fiona Wood

I could just connect with this book on so many levels and I really want to re-read this book!

Head of the River by Pip Harry

I think the main reason this has stuck with me is because of the drugs in sport aspect and studying what I study I just understood the characters and everything that they were going through.

Steal my Sunshine by Emily Gale

I love history and this novel brings light to an aspect of Australian history which I hadn't really learnt much about before.

Losing It by Julia Lawrinson

I read this book in year 12 which is the same year that the main characters were in so I connected a lot to this book and it was also hilarious.

Everything Left Unsaid by Jessica Davidson

I cried more in this than TFiOS (I think I became immune to the whole teenager with cancer situation) and like before I also read this in year 12, the same year which the characters were.

Gracie Faltrain Gets it right (Finally) by Cath Crowley

From this book I finally knew what I wanted to study at university and if it wasn't for this book I may of never found the degree that I am in.

Once, Then, Now by Morris Gleitzman

Set in WWII I started this series in year 8 where I also read Hitler's Daughter by Jackie French. These books helped me learn about history and love it.

Starfish Sisters by J.C. Burke

This book dealt which real teenager issues which as fantastic and it had to do with sport as well!

Speechless by Hannah Harrington

This book was simply amazing and so relevant with everything that was going on in the world at the time.

Gallagher Girls by Ally Carter

This series got me reading again and this is where my love for spies started and how I started comparing all book boyfriends to Zach Goode because it is Zach.

Study Series by Maria V. Synder

This book is what got me into fantasy again after HP and this series also increased my love for spies (Valek <3)

Catching Jordan by Miranda Kenneally

I loved the focus on sport in this book and how Jordan dealt with being the only female on the football team and proving that girls can do it as well as the guys.

So that is my top 10 (13) books that have stayed with me! I tag:

What you might like if you enjoyed...

Hey everyone! As you can see by the title it isn't a normal post, I thought I might give out some recommendations today! Yes this is a procrastination post from uni work... I was making a list of upcoming releases so I knew when the books I wanted would be out so I could have them!

If you liked Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins you might like:

My Life Next Door by Huntly Fitzpatrick. I have only just recently read this book but I loved it, the contemporary novel had that lightness & little darker moments like Anna had. While you don't get to travel to Paris & have Etienne you get Jase instead (he is pretty awesome).

If you liked Amy and Rodger's Epic Detour by Morgan Matson you might like:

How My Summer Went Up In Flames by Jennifer Doktorski. I read this only two weeks ago on the train home from Sydney and I absolutely loved it! I am a huge fan of road tripping books which is exactly what both are with some romance in between. The characters are just loveable and the things they do on this road trip are a lot of fun.

If you liked The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting you might like:

The Naturals by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. This book was a cross between Criminal Minds and The Body Finder (well the last two books in the series that is) but none the less having the killer's perspective and not knowing who the killer is makes the mystery has it own craziness to it.

If you liked The Hundred Oaks series by Miranda Kenneally you might like:

Hooked by Liz Fichera and The Academy series by Monica Seles. What all these books have in common is the sporting theme. I love sports in YA novels and especially females kicking arse in sport because the media doesn't always give the right attention to female athletes. They both also have romance that doesn't overshadow the sporting theme like so many other novels do which I loved (expect in Game On).

If you liked The Gallagher Girls by Ally Carter you might like:

Covert Assignment by Missy Marciassa. Now this is only if you don't it being a New Adult book, because that is what it is. I've read the first two books in this series and I absolutely love them (check out previous reviews)! The other book that I would recommend if you don't mind it being an adult book, stressing on the word adult because it is defiantly not YA is The Single Lady Spy by Tessa Brown. This series is awesome, I love it but it is adult! All these books have the spy theme & romance in common and it is great to see the changes in the spying world which each both from a different genre.

If you liked Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas you might like:

The Study Trilogy, The Glass Trilogy and The Healer Trilogy by Maria V. Synder. These books are all fantasy, have some female's kicking & killing people, romance and are really fantastic reads. Synder's books are addictive like Maas's and the world building is really quite amazing making these books great.

Let me know down in the comments if you enjoyed this post, so I know to do some more! Also if you have already read only of these books that I have paired together!

Review Time #42

United We Spy by Ally Carter

Cammie Morgan has one semester left until she graduates from the Gallagher Academy. Now she just has to stay alive that long.

In the heart-bounding conclusion to the bestselling Gallagher Girls series, Cammie faces her greatest mission yet. She finally knows why the terrorist organisation called the Circle of Cavan wanted her dead, but what they have planned next is even more terrifying. And if that isn't enough to worry about, Zach is who-knows-where, and his criminally insane mother is after Cammie.

The Gallagher Girls must sneak out (of the country), track down the Circle's elite members and stop them before they unleash a plot that will change Cammie- and the world- forever. (From Goodreads)

"Tell me Cameron Ann Morgan, what do you want to be when you grow up?"... "Alive."

I have been reading the Gallagher Girls since I was 13 and in year 8 at school, I found the series at Brisbane airport where I was about to go on adventure to Cairns. That day was the first time I had ever flown on a plane and that day was also the day I found out about the Gallagher Girls. I am now 18 and in my first year of University and the final Gallagher Girls book is out.

It is winter break, Cammie is with Bex, her mum and Bex's parents in London, of course they are on a mission with everything that has happened since Cammie came back from her summer holiday being tortured. They are on a hunt for the inner circle and of course they are very hard targets to get.

Zach and Mr. Solomon are off on a lead, Agent Townsend and Abby on another and of course Catherine is out there with vengeance on her mind. For the girls it might be their last semester of their senior year, but it is about surviving to see graduation and the circle everywhere, even in the Gallagher Academy.

United We Spy is so much more fast paced than any other book in the series. I read it on my kindle before my copy arrived and I felt myself going is this it? Dangerous missions that no-one can know about, traitors are everywhere and where ever you look the girls and Zach are in trouble. Travelling around the world to stop the inner circle and the original plan that Cavan had when he founded the group.

The characters, if possible, develop more so than ever before. We had Don't Judge a Girl by Her Cover which had Macey's history spotlighted, Bex has had her story told over all six books, Out of Sight, Out of Time was really Cammie's book more so than the others and United We Spy was Liz's past, something that we didn't get a lot of in the other books.

Cammie struggles with everything going on, she can't deal with people getting hurt and that graduation is literally just around the corner. The danger is everywhere and they can't hide from it when it involves saving the world from what the Circle of Cavan planned all those years ago.

"I'm a spy, Cam. I was born to do this- to be this. It's in my blood. And I will do it until the day I die. It's who I am,"..."the thing is I don't think you realise is... it's who you are too."

United We Spy was a great ending to my favourite series, while I am sad that it all over I can still re-read the series. The secrets are all out, the future is rocky, graduation is almost here... it is time to finish things once and for all.

"What is a Gallagher Girl?"
"She's a genius, a scientist, a heroine, a spy.. A Gallagher Girls is whatever she wants to be."

Rating: 5/5

Thanks to Date a Book for the copy from last review of the month!

Review #26

Perfect Scoundrels by Ally Carter
Katarina Bishop and W.W. Hale the fifth were born to lead completely different lives: Kat comes from a long, proud line of loveable criminal masterminds, while Hale is the scion of one of the most seemingly perfect dynasties in the world. If their families have one thing in common, it's that they both know how to stay under the radar while getting--or stealing--whatever they want. No matter the risk, the Bishops can always be counted on, but in Hale's family, all bets are off when money is on the line. When Hale unexpectedly inherits his grandmother's billion dollar corporation, he quickly learns that there's no place for Kat and their old heists in his new role. But Kat won't let him go that easily, especially after she gets tipped off that his grandmother's will might have been altered in an elaborate con to steal the company's fortune. So instead of being the heir--this time, Hale might be the mark. Forced to keep a level head as she and her crew fight for one of their own, Kat comes up with an ambitious and far-reaching plan that only the Bishop family would dare attempt. To pull it off, Kat is prepared to do the impossible, but first, she has to decide if she's willing to save her boyfriend's company if it means losing the boy. (from goodreads.com)

Kat and the gang are back! But this time it is more than just a lost master that has to be returned home, this time its personal. Hale's future and his family's future hang in the balance as Kat tries to figure out why would anyone want to change old Hazel Hale's will?

This book is more Kat being thrown into Hale's world not Hale falling for the girl who tried to his monet two years ago. Kat struggles with Hale's world and the responsibilities that he now faces with the outcome of Hazel's will. As Kat and the gang travel around the world visiting places that they have heisted at before doing again in the name of Hale.

Kat & Hale's relationship is put to the test when Kat doesn't want Hale knowing what she is doing. At moments I hated Hale because he didn't see that that Kat was trying to help in the only way she knows how: thieving. The emotional rollercoster that Carter takes you on in this story makes you want to scream, shout and swoon at Hale. Almost. All. The. Time.

The development of Kat & Hale's relationship is woven into the plot, with Kat trying to find the real will that could change Hale's life forever. With Hale's new responsibility he forgets that he has Kat to help him & to understand everything that is happening. The gang isn't used to division between Kat and Hale, they have to adjust to help with this heist (or really in this case planning & tricking), with help from the whole family this time, they try to pull off a con that could save Hale & his family business.

It was good to see the whole family come together and pull the con, since in the other two the family is against what Kat and the gang are trying to do, this time it is to save the outsider who became one of them. Perfect Scoundrels is a great installment in the Heist Society series and would have to  be the next best after Heist Society (seriously I loved the first).

Rating: 4.5/5 (Hale made me take off 0.5 for his ignorance)

2013 release's that I can't wait to get my hands on!

Earlier today I had my 2012 favourites, today I'm doing 2013 release's that I just can't wait to get my hands on!

(from goodreads)

More Kat & Hale! I. Can. Not. Wait! February 5th I will have this book somehow!

2. The Indigo Spell by Richelle Mead
In the aftermath of a forbidden moment that rocked Sydney to her core, she finds herself struggling to draw the line between her Alchemist teachings and what her heart is urging her to do. Then she meets alluring, rebellious Marcus Finch--a former Alchemist who escaped against all odds, and is now on the run. Marcus wants to teach Sydney the secrets he claims the Alchemists are hiding from her. But as he pushes her to rebel against the people who raised her, Sydney finds that breaking free is harder than she thought. There is an old and mysterious magic rooted deeply within her. And as she searches for an evil magic user targeting powerful young witches, she realizes that her only hope is to embrace her magical blood--or else she might be next. (from goodreads)

After loving the Vampire Academy series, bloodline is getting love too! I really liked Sydney in VA & having her own series makes her more awesome. I love the Syadrian moments and can not wait to see what is in stall this time around! Out February 12th!

3. Spirit by Brigid Kemmerer
With power comes enemies. Lots of them.

Hunter Garrity just wants to be left alone. He’s learned the hard way that his unusual abilities come at a price. And he can’t seem to afford any allies.

He’s up to his neck in hostiles. His grandfather, spoiling for a fight. The Merrick brothers, who think he ratted them out. Calla, the scheming psycho who wants to use him as bait.

Then there’s Kate Sullivan, the new girl at school. She’s not hostile. She’s bold. Funny. Hot. But she’s got an agenda, too.

With supposedly secret powers rippling to the surface everywhere around him, Hunter knows something ugly is about to go down. But finding out what means he’ll have to find someone he can trust… (from goodreads)

With her debut this year with Storm, Brigid & the Merrick brothers have taken the blogging community by storm! Seriously four totally hot & swoon-worthy boys all in ONE book! Brigid your killing us here! This time it is Hunter's turn & I really am looking forward to it after reading his Novella. Out sometime in 2013!

4. Three's A Crowd by Ali Cronin
Four girls, three boys, turning 18. Get set to follow their eventful final year at school...

Jack is lovesick. Ollie won't commit. Donna can't find a man. But what about Cass? Everyone thinks she has it all, but life is far from perfect. Her friends hate her boyfriend. Her best friend is in love with her. Cass is torn. How will she choose between them?

I have been really enjoying this series! Really looking forward to Cass's story & how everyone else is going! Out in January I think from Penguin Aus for Australia...

5. Things I Can't Forget by Miranda Kenneally
Kate has always been the good girl. Too good, according to some people at school—although they have no idea the guilty secret she carries. But this summer, everything is different…

This summer she’s a counselor at Cumberland Creek summer camp, and she wants to put the past behind her. This summer Matt is back as a counselor too. He’s the first guy she ever kissed, and he’s gone from a geeky songwriter who loved The Hardy Boys to a buff lifeguard who loves to flirt…with her.

Kate used to think the world was black and white, right and wrong. Turns out, life isn’t that easy…

After her debut with Catching Jordan & everyone falling head over heals for Sam Henry & a story about a girl playing Football (NFL style not Soccer), then Stealing Parker this year another sport one about baseball & softball & another hot guy called Will aka Corndog! I can not wait for this one, even though it isn't sport themed it still has characters from the other books, I really am looking forward to it! Out March 1st.

6. If I Should Die by Amy Plum
I will not lose another person I love. I will not let history repeat itself.

Vincent waited lifetimes to find me, but in an instant our future together was shattered. He was betrayed by someone we both called a friend, and I lost him. Now our enemy is determined to rule over France’s immortals, and willing to wage a war to get what they want.

It shouldn’t be possible, none of it should be, but this is my reality. I know Vincent is somewhere out there, I know he’s not completely gone, and I will do anything to save him.

After what we’ve already fought to achieve, a life without Vincent is unimaginable. He once swore to avoid dying—to go against his nature and forsake sacrificing himself for others—so that we could be together. How can I not risk everything to bring my love back to me?

The final installment in this series! I love Die for Me & this one I can't wait for especially after how Until I Die finished. Out May 7th.

7. Gates of Paradise by Melissa De La Cruz

No Synopsis on goodreads for this one! But it is the last installment in the blue bloods series and I just can not wait to read it! The whole story just dragged me and I now just want more & to see how it ends! Out January 15th.

8. Dead Silence by Kimberly Derting
Violet thought she’d made peace with her unique ability to sense the echoes of the dead and the imprints that cling to their killers…that is until she acquired an imprint of her own. Forced to carry a reminder of the horrible events of her kidnapping, Violet is more determined than ever to lead a normal life. However, the people who run the special investigative team Violet works for have no intention of letting her go.

When someone close to Violet becomes a suspect in a horrific murder, she finds herself pulled into a deadly hunt for a madman with an army of devoted followers. Violet has survived dangerous situations before, but she quickly discovers that protecting those closest to her is far more difficult than protecting herself.

I love this series (yes I've probably already said that about all the other ones but still...) the whole imprinting thing is new & I love the creepiness of it all. I hate horror movies but I just love this sort of mystery & creepy. I really love Violet & Jay also I just Raf too because well I liked him a lot in The Last Echo... Out April 16th.

9. The Elite by Kiera Cass
Thirty-five girls came to the palace to compete in the Selection. All but six have been sent home. And only one will get to marry Prince Maxon and be crowned princess of Illea.

America still isn’t sure where her heart lies. When she’s with Maxon, she’s swept up in their new and breathless romance, and can’t dream of being with anyone else. But whenever she sees Aspen standing guard around the palace, and is overcome with memories of the life they planned to share. With the group narrowed down to the Elite, the other girls are even more determined to win Maxon over—and time is running out for America to decide.

Just when America is sure she’s made her choice, a devastating loss makes her question everything again. And while she’s struggling to imagine her future, the violent rebels that are determined to overthrow the monarchy are growing stronger and their plans could destroy her chance at any kind of happy ending.

I really enjoyed the selection and cannot wait to see who America chooses, kinda hoping Maxon because I like him more than Aspen because he was a jerk. Out April 23rd.

10. Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare

No synopsis on goodreads! After only reading clockwork prince this year, not remembering if I actually liked clockwork angel... I was drawn back into the world of shadowhunters. Also stating my opinion here if Tessa doesn't get with Will I will be very  sad & disappointed, I like Jem but Will is better okay? Out March 19th.

So that is what I can't wait to be released in 2013! Whats yours?

Day 7: 7 Days of Ally Carter

Before reading the latest Gallagher Girls novel, I recommened going to http://www.thegallagheracademy.com/ to read the short stories from Liz, Bex, Macey and Zach! They give you an insight about what happened when Cammie left at the term.

Out of Sight, Out of Time by Ally Carter
The last thing Cammie Morgan remembers is leaving the Gallagher Academy to protect her friends and family from the Circle of Cavan--an ancient terrorist organization that has been hunting her for over a year. It's a race against time...

Cammie Morgan has no idea what she did last summer, what happened to her and where she went. When she arrives back at school it isn't what she expected, Macey and Liz act like nothings happened, Bex won't talk to her and Zach is the one out of the loop for once.

When in CoveOps Cammie assembles a rifle absent mindly and has no idea how she learnt it. Then what every Gallagher Girl dreams of, Zach in nothing but a towel. When they go back to where Cammie went in the start of the summer, an assasin is sent to kill her. But when Bex is in danger she does what she has to save her best friend, even if it means killing a man. As they try to follow where Cammie went last summer they uncover some of the darkest secrets.

With Agent Townsend, Zach, Joe Solomon, Abby and Preston back (yes Preston) we start to uncover what happened to Cammie, what went on in the summer and where her dad is.
